MARROW – St. Vincent
-------------------------------------------------------
Tuning: Drop-D
/ slide up
slide down
h hammer-on
~ vibrato
x Mute note
b bend
r bend release
I know this is not the way Annie Clark plays this.
She plays with a capo on the 1st fret, and I don’t think she is in drop-D.
She also plays some of the notes in the chorus at different octaves.
THIS IS HOW I PLAY THE SONG. But I am sure all the notes are correct.
You have to get around the neck kind of fast, so I’m showing 2 ways to play each part.
ALSO, EACH – ON MY TAB REPRESENTS A 16TH NOTE. THE NUMBERS AND SYMBOLS UNDER THE TAB IS THE TIMING.
INTRO – No guitar
Annie likes to do some distorted scratchy stuff on the strings here.
Just mess around a bit.
I have the gain turned up quite a bit and hit the body of my guitar like I’ve seen her do.
The open D power chord d|0| resonates and sounds pretty good.
A|0|
D|0|
VERSE – No guitar
Same as INTRO. Just fool around a bit if you want to.
You can also follow the chord progression the keys/flutes are doing.
Repeat entire sequence 2X

POST-SOLO/BRIDGE
Here there are some effects heavy chords being rung out.
I could never fully figure them out.
Instead I just strum the strings above the nut of my guitar.
If you hit it just right it sounds alright.
Also, you could try and ring out some harmonics on beat 1 of each measure.
Or, just repeat VERSE progression.
Repeat POST CHORUS/OUTRO RIFF 8X
The very last time I play it like this.

If you want to learn St. Vincent Marrow guitar chords, The 5 chords we’ll look at are the C major, A major, G major, E major, and D major.
The reason we use all major chords is that the minor versions of any of these chords just require tiny adjustments.
Each one of those minor chords is completely based on its major counterpart
The more you practice, the easier guitar will feel to play Marrow. Guitar is hard to learn in the beginning, but gets easier the longer you stick with it.
