Gone by U2 Guitar Chords

I tabbed “Gone” by U2 from POP. These are just the chords. The chords
from the other people don’t seem entirely correct. Hence, I gave it a
shot, and they are pretty close.
As for the cool high-pitched guitar part, to play that, You need a
slider and a delay pedal, and some sustainer. The beginning and other
parts of the song are played with the sliderer up around the 22nd and
24th frets (this may not actually be a fret on some guitar, but the
slider will hit the notes) of the E and B strings (the bottom two).

Here are my chords:

OPENING: E

VERSE: Em (well not really, Edge mutes the entire 12th fret in the
verse on all the strings).

PRE-CHORUS:
Goodbye, You can keep this suit of lights
I’ll be up with the sun
And I’m not coming down
I’m not coming down
I’m not coming down

Bridge (piano part)
And I’m already gone
Felt that way…. all along
Closer to you every day
I didn’t want it that much any way…

Rest in in Em, and the verse repeat and so on.
Hope this is clear for you.

Gone

Music by U2
Lyrics by Bono and The Edge
Transcribed by Brandon Leniart

This song is tuned 1/2 step down and also changes keys a few times.
Another one of my personal theories is that Bono is singing this song to
himself, and he’s trying to deal with his success. Just a thought.

this is actually what the riff sounds like:

1------------------------
2------------------------
3------------------------
4---------------------------
5---------------------------
6---------------------------

But since I know that riff is really tough to pull off, I’ve arranged an
easier version to play (which is probably what Edge uses with an
octaver and/or an effect that automatically produces harmonics):

1----------10-----12--
2---12----------------
3---------------------
4---------------------
5---------------------
6---------------------

use these these in between lyrics in the verses:

1---x-x-x-x-x-x-
2---x-x-x-x-x-x-
3---x-x-x-x-x-x-
4---x-x-x-x-x-x-
5---x-x-x-x-x-x-
6---x-x-x-x-x-x-
1---------
2---------
3---------
4---------
5---------
6---------

You get to feel so guilty, got so much for so little
Then you find that feeling just won’t go away
You’re holding on to every little thing so tightly
Till there’s nothing left for you anyway

piano riff:

1---12---10-----------------
2-------------12---10-------
3------------------------12-
4---------------------------
5---------------------------
6---------------------------

Goodbye

1---12---10---------------------
2-------------12---10-----------
3------------------------12---9-
4-------------------------------
5-------------------------------
6-------------------------------

You can keep this suit of lights

1---0/12------
2-------------
3-------------
4-------------
5-------------
6-------------
1---10--10/12-
2-------------
3-------------
4-------------
5-------------
6-------------

I’ll be up with the sun

And not coming down

I’m not coming down

I’m not coming down

You wanted to get somewhere so badly
You had to lose yourself along the way
You change a name, but that’s OK, it’s necessary
And what you leave behind you don’t miss anyway

Goodbye, you can keep this suit of lights
I’ll be up with the sun–I’m not coming down

I’m not coming down, I’m not coming down

Bridge (use these chords):

[1—7–]
[2—7–]
[3—7–]
[4—9–]
[5—9–]
[6—7–]
1—0
2—0
3—0
[4—2]
[5—2]6—0

[1—5-]
[2—5-]
[3—5-]
[4—7-]
[5—7-]
[6—5-]
And I’m already gone

Felt that way all along

Closer to you everyday, didn’t want it that much anyway

You’re taking steps that make you feel dizzy
Then you get to like the way it feels
You hurt yourself, you hurt your lover
Then you discover what you thought was freedom was just greed

Goodbye, no emotional goodnight

We’ll be up with the sun

Are you still holding on?

I’m not coming down

I’m not coming down

Outro:

1---0/12---10---0/12-
2--------------------
3--------------------
4--------------------
5--------------------
6--------------------
1---14--14--12--15--15--14--12-
2------------------------------
3------------------------------
4------------------------------
5------------------------------
6------------------------------

If you want to learn U2 Gone guitar chords, The 5 chords we’ll look at are the C major, A major, G major, E major, and D major.
The reason we use all major chords is that the minor versions of any of these chords just require tiny adjustments.
Each one of those minor chords is completely based on its major counterpart

The more you practice, the easier guitar will feel to play Gone. Guitar is hard to learn in the beginning, but gets easier the longer you stick with it.
