The Replacements

This was originally posted by Francois Rousseau last week. Merci.

Tricky fingerpicking:

To get the feeling try playing the D chord and alternate the way you
play the last string between the 2nd fret (as in a D) and the open
string (D9). Do the same with the GM7 chord (alternate on the little
string between the second fret and the open string). I fingerpick the
whole song and it sounds ok.

For the D: easy to play for everybody…

1 E: 2 (alternate with open string (e))
2 B: 3
3 G: 2
4 D: 0
5 A: 0
6 E: X

For the GM7: hard to play for beginners…

1 E: 2 (alternate with open string (e))
2 B: 0
3 G: 0
4 D: 0
5 A: 2
6 E: 3

Skyway
(The Replacements)

Capo 3rd fret
intro: D Gm7 D Gm7

You take the Skyway
High above the busy little one way
In my stupid automn gloves at night a lie awake
Wanderin’ if I’ll sleep
Wanderin’ if we’ll meet out in the street
To take the Skyway

It don’t move at all like a subway
It’s got bums when it’s cold like any other place
It’s warm up inside
Sittin’ down and waitin’ for a ride
Beneath the Skyway

Em C A7 Gm7 (or G) Em C A7

Oh then one day
I saw you walkin’ down that little one way
Where the place I catch my ride most everyday
They weren’t a dawn thing I could do or say
Up in the Skyway
Skyway Skyway

If you want to learn The Replacements Skyway guitar chords, The 5 chords we’ll look at are the C major, A major, G major, E major, and D major.
The reason we use all major chords is that the minor versions of any of these chords just require tiny adjustments.
Each one of those minor chords is completely based on its major counterpart

The more you practice, the easier guitar will feel to play Skyway. Guitar is hard to learn in the beginning, but gets easier the longer you stick with it.
